Australia has provided a substantial assistance of $16.2 million to refit and support Fiji’s Pacific Class Patrol Boats.
This package will cover the next three years and it will include facilitating Fiji’s access to Australian Pacific Patrol Boat parts providers, funding the remaining elements of the refit for the Republic of Fiji Naval Ship Kikau and supporting a slipping and upgrade of the ship Kula.
Acting Commander of RFMF, Viliame Naupoto says this package is a significant investment in Fiji’s maritime capability.
Naupoto says that this will ensure that RFMF will continue to meet Fiji’s maritime security challenges as they prepare to commission new vessels under the Pacific Maritime Security Program.
He says maritime security is a priority for both Fiji and Australia and it is also an increasing area of bilateral cooperation.
