Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya says the Australian market alone constitutes 49% of total visitor arrivals to Fiji and Australia still remains our largest market for tourists.
This was highlighted by Koya after he was asked by Opposition MP Viliame Gavoka to explain why tourism arrivals from Australia have been weak.
Koya says visitor arrival from Australia has been growing steadily at an average rate of 3 percent from 2012 to 2015.
He says Fiji recorded 360,370 visitor arrivals from Australia last year.
Koya highlighted that the provisional results for January this year shows that 30,128 Australian arrivals which is a 3.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
He says whilst the visitor arrivals showed a decreased last year Fiji has remained one of Australia’s top 10 destination in 2016.
He says Tourism Fiji is also strengthening its in-house capacity in the area of content marketing, social media, digital marketing and communications by recruiting additional personnel for its regional office in Australia.
