Many lives in Fiji will be saved after the Ministry of Health received new neuro-surgery equipment today.
CWM Hospital’s Acting Deputy Secretary Hospital Services Dr. Luisa Cikamatana received the new Aesculap electric neuro-surgery drill from the Australian High Commission under their Direct Aid Program at the hospital today.
Cikamatana says the new equipment will be put to benefit those who need them especially after accidents.
Australian High Commissioner Margaret Twomey says the benefits of this specialised equipment will mean that the Neurosurgery Unit will have shorter and safer operating times.
Meanwhile, CWM Hospital Consultant Neurosuergeon Dr. Alan Biribo says that this is one of the most precious gifts from the Australian Government.
Biribo says they had made a request for the new equipment from the Australian Government after its specialised bone drill had become inoperative last year.
According to the Ministry the Neurosurgery unit was established in 2013 and since then 450 neurosurgical procedures have been performed.
