The Australian High Commission said all seasonal workers are protected by the Australian workplace laws in the same manner as the Australians.
This comes after Fijivillage questioned the High Commission about their investigations and the steps taken by them following claims by a group of Fijian workers in Australia that they are being paid about AUD$10 a week.
An Australian High Commission spokesperson says the Australian Government will not tolerate the exploitation of vulnerable foreign workers.
The spokesperson said the vast majority of workers have a positive experience and send an average of $5,000 to their families and communities on placements of six to nine months, money which is spent on improving housing, education and healthcare in home countries.
According to the spokesperson, there are over 8,000 seasonal workers in Australia who work in the Australian agriculture and accommodation sectors, where employers have had difficulty finding Australian workers.
