Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho and his senior command toured the Colonial War Memorial Hospital earlier this week as part of the institution’s campaign to address the wellness and health of its officers.
A health audit was conducted earlier this year which showed some worrying results on the health status of officers resulting in an ongoing partnership with the Ministry of Health’s Wellness Team in conjunction with the CWM’s Medical Team.
With majority of the police deaths in 2016 and 2017 linked to Non-communicable diseases, a weekly presentation on addressing non-communicable diseases and other lifestyle diseases is being delivered by Staff Nurse Lusia Tamani at Headquarters and with the four policing divisions.
Qiliho says they are in a profession that demands a lot of their time and it can be stressful and it is vital that they strike the perfect balance so that they do not succumb to NCD’s and other lifestyle diseases.
Qiliho has urged the senior command which included two Divisional Police Commanders to share what they have seen during the tour with those under their command.
A number of officers have undergone further screenings with the CWM Hospital medical team.
