The cyclone season outlook for 2017 to 2018 indicates a possibility of at least four to six tropical cyclones to form in the Pacific region.

Disaster Management Permanent Secretary, Meleti Bainimarama says that at least three to five of the tropical cyclones are predicted to reach category 3 or above status.

He says that for Fiji, one or two tropical cyclones are predicted to pass through Fiji waters this season with one anticipated to reach category 3 or above.

Bainimarama says tropical cyclone risk is normal for Fiji and the rest of the Pacific nations.

The cyclone season is from next month to April.

When questioned by Fijivillage on the dry conditions currently being experienced in the Western and Northern divisions, Director of the National Disaster Management Anare Leweniqila said that they are supplying water to the affected areas.

This includes Kadavu, Yasawa, parts of the Western and Northern divisions.

He adds that the department is also working on reports for the provision of water supply to those who have not received adequate water supply to date.
