The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto says one of his main targets during his tenure is to recruit more women in the RFMF to participate in peacekeeping duties.
Naupoto says Fiji is slowly getting there but they have to make sure that the infrastructure within the RFMF caters for females for their comfort and security as well.
He says according to the UN requirement, RFMF numbers need to be 10 percent female to participate in peacekeeping duties.
He adds that the UN highlighted a shift in policy to engage more females in peacekeeping operations and affirmed the role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, negotiations and post‑conflict reconstruction.
