Residents of Lami, Delainavesi, Veisari and the Togalevu areas affected by the dry weather conditions are now receiving tap water on alternative days.
Water Authority of Fiji CEO, Opetaia Ravai, said under the alternative schedule residents receive 24 hours of tap water starting at 10pm on one day and the next day receive carted water.
Ravai said the reason is to ensure that the water pressure builds up.
Ravai said those on the lower end of the affected areas first receive the tap water reducing the pressure for those on the top.
He added that this is one of the reasons they have started delivery at 10pm so that by the time many of the residents get up in the morning there is water flowing from the tap.
Ravai said the Water Authority of Fiji continues to monitor the alternative day schedule.
He also said people must be aware that on average there can be an eight-hour delay before residents will receive water from their taps.
