The Catholic Church in Fiji has confirmed that the green light has been given to bury the late Archbishop Emeritus Petero Mataca in the new tomb at the Sacred Heart Cathedral.

This is after the Suva City Council and the Ministry of Health officials inspected the new tomb yesterday.

Communications Coordinator of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, Leca Vunibobo says the Commissioner Central’s office has given the approval with a certificate following the inspection of the new tomb.

Meanwhile, the government delegation led by the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama presented their ireguregu yesterday on behalf of the people of Fiji.

The Methodist and Anglican churches presented their ireguregu yesterday as well.

Relatives of the late Archbishop from his village in Vuaki, Yasawa, Catholic Teacher’s Association, Western Region Parish, Northern Region Parish and the Tui Suva also presented their i-reguregu yesterday.

The funeral will be held at 10am tomorrow.
