An alliance of US states, cities, businesses and universities speaking at COP 23, say they still back the Paris climate deal, despite President Donald Trump.
They are still committed to curbing global warming, even as the Trump administration is walking away from the Paris climate accord.
Speaking at COP23, the global climate meeting in Bonn, former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg says many Americans were committed to the goals of the Paris Agreement and there was nothing Washington could do to stop them.
The group calling itself ‘America’s Pledge’ which accounts for more than half the country’s economy, have been taking considerable steps to reduce emissions by promoting renewable energy and climate‑friendly transportation systems.
The speeches by Bloomberg and California governor, Jerry Brown, were regularly interrupted by protestors, who held banners protesting against climate change.
Outside the venue in Bonn, social and environmental movements gathered for a peaceful demonstration under the motto “Coal, Crude Oil, Nuclear: Stop the monkey business”.
Around 2,000 pdemonstrators called for more action against climate change, with many taking part in a short march from the city centre to the COP23 venue.
Many wore creative costumes ranging from Donald Trump being driven by a polar bear to skeleton costumes, a nod to the 11th of November being seen as the start of the carnival season in parts of Germany.
