The Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals in Fiji is deeply concerned about another barbaric and inhumane attack on a dog this week.
SPCA received a call on Friday from a very distressed owner who said that his poor dog, Dusty had been struck with a cane knife.
Dusty is now recovering well and will be sent home soon.
This is just one of the many cases of animal cruelty that SPCA is now constantly receiving.
SPCA Board Member Seema Deo says cases of animal cruetly in Fiji span from people not feeding their animals to cases like the one this week where a dog was struck with a cane knife.
She says in some cases animals have been put down because there was really nothing that could be done to them.
The most common form of intentional cruelty to animals is poisoning, usually with the use of paraquat.
Less common cases include burning with hot water, cane knife attacks, injuries from people throwing rocks and blunt force injuries.
Please report cases of animal cruelty to Police or SPCA as they can try to support callers in having these cases investigated.
