The Fiji Labour Party has appointed Assistant General Secretary Aman Ravindra Singh to lead the party to the 2018 General Elections but Mahendra Chaudhry remains the Party Leader.
Singh will be the Parliamentary Leader and become Prime Minister if the Fiji Labour Party wins the elections.
This appointment was made at the Fiji Labour Party National Council meeting today.
Singh says the FLP National Council has decided that Mahendra Chaudhry will continue to be the Party Leader and will look after the administration of the party.
Singh says he will now be responsible for leading the candidates to the polls.
When asked by Fijivillage if he intends to become the leader of the Fiji Labour Party, Singh says he is happy with the decision made by the party’s National Council.
Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry says they hope to announce the first batch of candidates later next week.
He says they are still talking to potential candidates and there are some constraints because they are employed and would not like to be identified at the moment.
Chaudhry says there are past parliamentarians in the team and there are others who may not have been parliamentarians but have a good knowledge of the government and how it works.
