Alleged rapist and murderer Josua Colanaudolu’s caution interview was read in the Suva High court where he admitted carrying the 14-year-old girl to the beach and raping her on 13th March last year.
Police Officer Tuaci Tasoqosoqo who investigated the death of the girl read Colanaudolu’s interview to Police which states that Colanaudolu was heavily intoxicated on the night of 13th March and he met the 14-year-old girl at a market later in the night.
Tasoqosoqo further said that Colanaudolu told Police that he grabbed the girl by her neck and carried her across Queens Highway to the beach side.
The court was told that Colanaudolu also said in his caution interview that he hit the girl’s head with his elbow, choked her and threw her over the fence to the beach side.
Tasoqosoqo says Colanaudolu said that he then took the other way around to the place where he threw the girl, picked her up and took her to the beach.
Justice Salesi Temo was told that Colanaudolu also admitted that he covered the girl’s face with her clothes and raped her.
In his caution interview, Colanaudolu said he covered her face as he did not want the girl to identify him.
Tasoqosoqo says Colanaudolu said in his caution interview that he knew the girl was alive but she was unconscious when he raped her.
Tasoqosoqo further told the court that Colanaudolu told them that he left the girl on the beach and went home.
The court was told that Colanaudolu also said in the caution interview that he wished to seek forgiveness from the 14-year-old girl’s family for what he had done.
39-year-old security officer Josua Colanaudolu is facing one count of murder, 6 counts of rape, 4 counts of abduction and one count of indecently annoying a female.
The charges include the case where Colanaudolu allegedly abducted, raped and murdered a 14 year old girl in Deuba in March last year.
Colanaudolu’s murder and rape trial will continue in the Suva High Court.
