Some Opposition parliamentarians have raised concern that they are finding difficulties to get information from government ministries and statutory bodies.
Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa highlighted that people working in these ministries are very reluctant in giving out information.
Opposition MP Viliame Gavoka also highlighted that as parliamentarians, when they visit ministries and government departments, they are told that anybody from the street cannot be seen.
Attorney General and Public Enterprises Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum told the members that they can liaise with the relevant ministers directly.
This issue came up when Opposition parliamentarian Ratu Sela Nanovo questioned Attorney General and Public Enterprises Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum why the annual reports of Fiji Airways from 2009 to 2013 have not been released.
Sayed-Khaiyum has confirmed that all these reports have been released to all the shareholders in the company’s annual general meeting.
He said the company’s reports are up to date as the 2014 report is about to be finalized.
Sayed-Khaiyum also stressed that the operations of Fiji Airways is fully funded by the company and government does not give any grants to the company.
