The Ministry of Agriculture’s Research Division is carrying out the registration of all pesticides in the market in accordance with the Pesticide Act.
The Registrar of Pesticide, Director Research Dr Apaitia Macanawai says the Pesticide Act states that any product intended for use or used for controlling a pest or any adjuvant intended for use or used in connection with any such product needs to be registered.
Dr Macanawai says no pesticide may be used or offered for sale in the country unless such pesticide has been registered with the Registrar.
He says the pesticide survey they are undertaking, addresses the proper registration, labelling and storage of pesticides.
Dr Macanawai says the survey will also able to identify the number of breaches in the country.
He says the Pesticides retailers are issued with a warning letter once they do not comply with the Pesticide Act.
