All bus services to be suspended today

The Fiji Bus Operators Association has announced that Bus services across Fiji will be suspended today, for the safety of the travelling public and bus drivers.

Fiji Bus Operators Association General Secretary, Rohit Lanchtan says this follows discussions with the Minister for Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu.

Latchan says bus services will resume once the National Disaster Management Office in consultation with bus operators give the all‑clear.

Meanwhile , we have sought clarification from government last night and they have said that bus service is not to be suspended wherever there are floods, impassable roads and in the event of gale winds then buses can stop operations.

Government says as it is, they stop operations in any case when it is dangerous to continue. The police also stop it.

The government says buses should not stop operations in particular in those areas that are not affected as much and members of the public need to get around including those who are required for essential services.
