Health Minister Rosy Akbar has stressed that it is not right to blame medical officials for deaths occurring from diseases like Dengue Fever and Leptospirosis.
She made this comment in Parliament today when SODELPA’s MP, Niko Nawaikula asked Akbar on what the Ministry of Health is doing in regards to programs for medical officials to properly equip them.
Akbar then stated that it is important to understand the complications of the cases and they have always said for people to present themselves early at health facilities for early detection as it will save lives.
She says it is unfortunate that there are cases of dengue fever and leptospirosis which reaches the late stage and people have died as they have reached the hospitals late.
Akbar told the parliamentarians that they have teams in various divisions for addressing disease outbreaks.
She says they have found that the areas that are affected by floods are mostly breeding grounds for a lot of diseases like dengue, typhoid and diarrhoea.
Akbar says their teams have visited more than 500 communities and also shops for food surveillance as they believe a lot of communicable diseases also arise after disasters as people try to salvage food which causes diseases.
