An airport has sparked controversy after launching a number of ‘women only’ car parking space this week.
The priority spots have pink high‑heeled shoes painted on the concrete surface to show they are intended only for female drivers at Moscow Airport in Russia.
As well as being ‘only for women’, the spaces are larger than normal.
This is because women apparently need more space to get in and out, as well as extra space for loading and unloading.
Airport bosses have argued that women are ‘usually the ones transporting children’ so they in turn need extra space when parking.
They claim it was not intended to suggest they lack spatial awareness when in backing in or out of spaces but the move has sparked criticism from sceptics who claim it was a ‘massively sexist and outdated’ proposal.
Airport bosses say they will take all views on board in deciding whether to keep the pink spaces.
