National Federation Party parliamentarian Prem Singh withdrew references he made to the father of the Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in parliament today.
Singh made references to Sayed-Khaiyum’s father after he talked about the Acting Prime Minister being arrested in 1988 protesting against the 1987 coup.
He said he was paying respect to Sayed-Khaiyum’s father.
The Acting Prime Minister then raised a point of order saying that Prem Singh should not refer to his family members.
The Speaker of Parliament Doctor Jiko Luveni said that whether the references are right or wrong it should not be made to those that are not in parliament to defend themselves.
She also stressed that she does not take kindly to all the groaning which members of parliament make when she makes a ruling.
