“Education is a very special and dear thing to the Government.”
These are the sentiments of the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while speaking at the Outrigger Walk for Kids programme in Sigatoka.
Sayed-Khaiyum says education has been made free in Fiji and we now have access to tertiary education and we have subsidy for transportation amongst others, but the special schools also need special attention.
The Outrigger Walk for Kids programme raised money to fund a vehicle needed for the Sigatoka School for Children with Special Needs and for the construction of teachers’ quarters at Conua District School.
The Attorney-General has also pledged $20,000 towards the initiative that was contributed by various people.
More than 150 people, including students, teachers, Outrigger Resort staff and various representatives from other stakeholders participated in the 7 kilometre walk this morning which began from the resort through to the Sigatoka Special School.
