‘Teenage pregnancy is a critical issue in Fiji and this needs to be addressed’.
This was highlighted by Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while speaking at the Catholic Head Teachers, Principals and Managers’ Conference today.
Sayed-Khaiyum says that we should talk to our children that they should have control over their bodies.
He adds the children should be told that their bodies should be empowered for better things and this will change their lives.
Sayed-Khaiyum stresses that if our children have their children at the right age then they will be able to have a high level of income, support them well and also get support from family.
The Acting Prime Minister adds that to address the issue of teenage pregnancies the government has provided opportunities to study through scholarships and free education.
He says Fiji needs more teachers, doctors, Marine Scientists and Psychologists and the opportunities given by the government should be utilised well.
