The Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has congratulated the Vodafone Fiji 7s team on behalf of the people of Fiji on their World Sevens Series title win and qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
In the dinner reception that was hosted by the Vodafone led consortium of sponsors at the Holiday Inn last night, Sayed-Khaiyum said the huge achievement by the team has not only made the nation proud but it has taken Fiji to greater levels abroad.
Sayed-Khaiyum adds that every Fijian is hoping for the team to bring Fiji’s first gold medal from the Rio Olympics next year.
He also thanked coach Ben Ryan for his leadership throughout the season.
Meanwhile captain Osea Kolinisau also acknowledged Ryan’s efforts.
Kolinisau told the players that their hard work has paid off this season.
He also bid farewell to lanky forward Semi Kunatani who will be leaving in July to join the Toulouse Rugby Club in France.
The players received their bonus cheques last night which includes every player who was part of the team from the Gold Coast 7s last year.
The national team shared $78,000 as their bonus for winning the series and other tournaments.
Great for boys that their bonuses for last 4 tournaments plus World Series has been paid. Over $120k FJD shared out amongst them.
