“Diwali is getting out of darkness into the light.”
This comment was made by the Acting Permanent Secretary for Education, Heritage and Arts, Basundra Kumar today at the Narere Primary School Diwali celebrations.
Kumar said that during this festive season everyone should leave their past behind and enjoy to the fullest as Diwali is one of the most important festival’s observed by all the Fijians in the nation.
While the school students sang the National Anthem in three different languages, ITaukei, English and in Hindi, Kumar said that it is very important that our children should know the three major languages as it shows the respect to each other’s culture.
She is also urging parents to supervise their children during the lighting of candles, diyas and firecrackers as she wishes all the Fijians a very happy Diwali.
