About US$330 million worth of Memorandums of Understanding have been signed between Fiji and a high level delegation from China today.
During the China Fiji Economy and Trade Cooperation Conference at the Grand Pacific Hotel, 12 Commercial MOUs and other Government level MOUs were signed.
Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya said this event will further deepen the relations in trade, investment and economic corporation with Guangdong Province.
He added the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s landmark visit last year has led to further strengthening of our relations in Agriculture, Trade, Higher Education, Telecommunications and Tourism.
Koya said trade between Fiji and China has been flourishing in recent years.
He is confident that today’s conference will be fruitful and mutually benefit both parties.
He added the total trade value between the two countries was FJD$224 million in 2010 and was $990 million in 2014, representing an increase of approximately 342 percent.
Koya further said that as the tourist numbers from China have increased seven fold from 4,087 in 2009 to over 28,000 last year, in 2015 its showing an increase of 34 percent compared to same period last year.
This year is the 40th anniversary of China-Fiji diplomatic relations.
