About 37 premature babies died at the CWM Hospital between January to November this year.
This was revealed at the World Premature Day celebration this afternoon at the CWM hospital.
This celebration is taking place in Fiji for the first time.
Senior Sister in charge of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Kitiana Natasere said the percentage survival rate for premature babies is 76% as 154 premature babies were born at the hospital this year.
She added that they need more ventilators as sometimes they have to share.
Nurse and Midwife, Patricia Narayan said premature births in Fiji are increasing and more awareness is needed.
She hopes with these kinds of celebrations, they will be able to make people aware of the reasons for premature births and the problems associated with it.
Some mothers also shared their experiences of giving birth to premature babies and how their babies have survived due to the facilities and care at the CWM Hospital.
