About $36M paid out to iTaukei landowners since 2008

$36 million has been paid to more than one thousand landowning units over the years in land rents subsidy since 2008.

iTaukei Land Trust Board General Manager, Alipate Qetaki said the rate of the Agricultural Landlord and Tenant Act or ALTA lease renewals increased to 80% until the end of last year.

Qetaki said more agricultural leases have been renewed and landowners have benefitted from releasing their land.

The objective of Committee for Better Utilization of Land is to ensure expired ALTA leases are renewed for sugarcane farming and to allow landowners and farmers achieve a higher return through the conversion of land into productive agricultural and commercial use.
