People living in Abarela Settlement in Navosa no longer have to walk far to get water following the construction of the community’s new dam.
Water Authority of Fiji Chief Executive Officer Opetaia Ravai says the project started in early November last year.
Ravai says a total of $211,327 was used to complete the project and they have also installed 31 standpipes and showers.
He adds that the settlement also received $6,475 as they supplied labour to assist in the construction.
Abarela Water Project Coordinator, Sitiveni Kuriwasa says he is grateful for the assistance given by the Water Authority as they did not have a water system in the past.
Kuriwasa adds that they used to rely on the Sigatoka River and the Bemana water system.
