The Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has welcomed the report submitted by the Multinational Observer Group on the 2018 General Elections saying that this represents another historic occasion in our young democracy, as Fiji has successfully met the high bar set by the free and fair General Election conducted in 2014.
He says that this should be a point of pride for every Fijian that Fiji has once again held an election that has met high international standards adding that this has delivered a government freely chosen by the majority of Fijians.
Sayed-Khaiyum thanked the participants of the Multinational Observer Group and its Coordinator, Alice Cawte.
The Attorney General acknowledged that the findings of the Multinational Observer Group are a well‑deserved validation of the hard work of the leadership and staff of the Fijian Elections Office and the Electoral Commission in delivering an election that has met high international standards in fairness and credibility.
Sayed-Khaiyum also congratulated the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammad Saneem for delivering an election widely heralded by the general public as the most voter‑friendly electoral process ever conducted in our country.
He expressed pride for the fact that the Multinational Observer Group Report recognized the removal of ethnic voting blocks and the establishment of a single voter registration system as key moves to align Fiji with international best practice.
Sayed-Khaiyum also acknowledged the Fijians who braved the bad weather on polling day to cast their ballots.
