Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum can sit on the Parliamentary Privileges Committee to look at the comments made by SODELPA parliamentarian, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.
Speaker of Parliament, Doctor Jiko Luveni has made this ruling today after Opposition MP, Mosese Bulitavu questioned the eligibility of the Attorney General to sit on the Privileges Committee inquiry as he was the mover of the motion referring the allegation of breach of privilege to the committee.
Doctor Luveni said Sayed-Khaiyum moved the motion on behalf of the government and does not have any direct personal interest in the case.
Meanwhile Doctor Luveni also confirmed that SODELPA MP, Semesa Karavaki has now withdrawn his point of order raised yesterday.
Karavaki had said that he had evidence that Sayed-Khaiyum had allegedly used vulgar language in parliament.
Karavaki said earlier today that he will have further discussions with the Speaker on this.
