October 1948 saw the birth of an institution that was run solely to develop women who would later give back, contribute and be useful members of society.
Adi Cakobau School celebrated their 69th birthday with a pre-platinum dinner and launch of their year-long celebration for their 70th anniversary, this was launched by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
Old Girls Association President Ilisapeci Movono at the launch acknowledged the group of far sighted and visionary people that convinced the government of the day of the need to bring together a group of young girls from all over Fiji to be educated.
She adds that the launching of the year-long 70th anniversary celebration, the school and alumni will be celebrating the government’s decision to have the school established 7 decades ago.
Movono says that in the surroundings and dormitories of the Ruku ni vei Dakua started the nurturing, education and socialization of 7 decades of young women from Fiji and the region.
She says that the school has over the years produced women who have contributed to the shaping, landscape of leadership and development in the country.
Movono says that with the celebrations the institution and alumni are focused on giving back to the community in particular to empower young people and women.
Meanwhile the Alumni took the opportunity to inform the Prime Minister of their support in his work for the Presidency of COP23.
