95% of population now has electricity in the country

95% of the population now has access to electricity in the country.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of the Somosomo Hydro Dam in Taveuni today, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the new hydro will generate 700 kilowatts of electricity that will benefit the people from Wairiki to Welagi.

Bainimarama said they are in the process of replacing the diesel generators with power generated from renewable sources.

The Somosomo Hydro Dam costs about $15 million.
