Ninety students of Waimari Primary School in Rakiraki now have access to clean drinking water following the commissioning of its borehole and pipelines today.
Head Teacher Sunita Chandra said that classes were always affected in the past as the school relied on the community dam.
She said the water is dirty sometimes because of heavy rain and results in dirty drinking water.
She added that they made a request to the Japanese Embassy for assistance in the water projects.
The Government of Japan provided new water supply systems worth more than $112,000 to five communities in Ra.
The water projects have been implemented by the Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation for the installation of essential water supply facilities such as reservoirs, wells, water pumps and pipes in Waimari Primary School, Nakorovou village, Naqaqa settlement, Nukulevu settlement, and Navatu settlement
