A total of 850,000 tonnes of sugar cane has been crushed in the three sugar mills around the country with the production of more than 90,000 tonnes of sugar.
This has been highlighted by Fiji Sugar Corporation Chief Operations Officer Navin Chandra.
Chandra says that this is an increase of 91,000 tonnes compared to last year.
According to Chandra, 30,000 tonnes of sugar has been produced by Rarawai Mill, 28,000 tonnes of sugar at Lautoka Mill while 36,000 tonnes of sugar has been produced at Labasa Mill so far.
He also highlights that the sugar cane supply around the country has also improved after the introduction of more cane harvesters.
He says that 44 cane harvesters are in use and more cane is expected to be harvested in a short time.
