Eight short term remedies will be implemented in the beginning of next month to minimise traffic congestion, overloading of buses during peak hours and people rushing to catch mini busses at mini bus stands between the Suva and Nausori Corridor.
The short term remedies include enforcement and traffic control at bus stops during peak hours and reducing traffic congestion in front of schools that are located in Nasinu.
LTA’s spokesperson, Anuragi Prakash said the Vatuwaqa bridge will become a one way bridge in the morning during peak hours.
There will be no road works and enforcement during morning peak hours.
Enforcement will also begin on illegal stopping of vehicles along bus stops.
Private vehicles will also be directed through the Omkar Road and out of Beaumont road, Nasinu in 8 miles to resolve traffic congestion at Makoi traffic lights and bus stops.
Other remedies include identifying areas of reversible lanes, identifying illegal operators and taking them off the road and encouraging people to travel by Public Transport.
Transport experts from the Land Transport Authority, Ministry of Transport, Fiji Roads Authority, Fiji Police Force and Municipal Councils have identified the solutions during a Mini Symposium that was held earlier this week.
