An allocation of $79 million has been given by the government for Peacekeeping Missions in the 2016/2017 National budget.
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has been given a majority of the allocation for peacekeeping missions, receiving $77.3 million.
A budget of $1.7 million has been given to the Fiji Police Force for peacekeeping missions.
A total of 1,105 RFMF and Police personnel are currently deployed on UN missions in Syria, Iraq and Sinai.
Republic of Fiji Military Forces Budget:
The RFMF received $96.4 million in the 2016/2017 National budget.
An allocation of $2.2 million has been given for the ongoing upgrade of military facilities and this includes the upgrade of the Lautoka Camp.
The government has given $1 million for the upgrade of the Armoury at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua.
$100,000 has also been given for the relocation of the Naval base to Togalevu.
Fiji Police Force Budget:
Fiji Police Force had a total allocation of $131.7 million which is an increase of $5.5 million from last year’s budget.
$1.95 million has been given for the construction of the new Valelevu police station.
A new Nakasi police station will be built at a cost of $900,000.
A sum $1 million was allocated for the new Police Station in Lautoka and the same amount has been allocated for the reconstruction of the Nalawa and Nayavu police stations.
