A 71-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to allegedly raping his granddaughter.
He is the paternal grandparent of the complainant.
The alleged incident happened on the 14th of July this year in Suva.
It was heard in the High Court that the granddaughter is 4-years-old.
The elderly man has applied for bail but State Counsel, Meli Vosawale told the court they would be objecting to bail because of the nature of the relationship between the accused and the complainant and there may be interference.
Justice Daniel Goundar has set the bail hearing for next Wednesday before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.
The accused has been remanded in custody.
