7 children have died from cancer this year.
This has been confirmed by Head of Department Pediatrics at the CWM hospital, Dr Ili Vereti who says 1 child died after unsuccessful treatment while the other 6 children died as they were brought in late.
Vereti says some challenges parents face is not being aware of the signs that might to lead to cancer.
She says the challenges doctors face is trying to get their patients to the hospital for continuous treatment when their patients return home.
Vereti adds some of their patients live all the way in Labasa, Levuka and finding airfares or boat fares to the capital city is a challenge but with their supporting partners they were able to fly their patients to CWM hospital for continuous treatment.
She says in 2013, they had 24 new cases of childhood cancer, 11 new cases last year and 11 new cases mid this year.
Vereti says they now have a partnership with Christchurch who have upgraded their treatment and helped them with therapies. This has resulted in a high survival rate.
