Seven cases of drugs and illicit substances were intercepted at the Nadi International Airport this year with the assistance of Fiji Revenue Customs Authority and Bio Security Authority of Fiji.
Police Border Control Unit Commanding Officer, SP Jope Ralulu revealed this to Minister for Immigration, National Security and Defence Timoci Natuva who is currently on an official tour of the Fiji Police Force Departments and Units in the Western Division.
Ralulu said in the last two years the Unit has managed to reduce the number of reported cases at the Nadi Airport adding that seventy cases were reported in 2013 while only 30 cases were reported to date.
Ralulu said crimes such as theft, unruly behavior and fraud have been reported at the Nadi Airport and they have managed to reduce the number of reports by working closely with all stakeholders such as Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority, Airports Fiji Limited, Air Terminal Services, Bio-Security Authority of Fiji and Post Fiji.
Meanwhile, Natuva stressed the need to look into up-skilling officers based at the unit through local and overseas training opportunities.
