Seven out of one hundred asthma patients, who were admitted at the CWM hospital and other major hospitals in the country in the past three years, have passed away.
This was revealed by CWM hospitals Medical Officer at the Emergency Department, Doctor Vivek Lal while receiving over of 300 asthma equipment from the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Fiji National University, Dr. Ian Rouse.
Dr. Lal said according to the World Health Organization report the death rate in Fiji on asthma is the third highest in the world.
Dr. Lal who is the head of asthma campaign at CWM hospital says the illness can be managed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ian Rouse said he needs people to work together in fighting against asthma and making a difference in the lives of the patients.
An asthma patient, 55-year-old Vilisi Khan said she has been suffering from asthma for the last 33 years but she is managing well with a help of a nebuliser and constant advice from the doctors.
