A 66‑year‑old man has been jailed for 15 years 9 months after being convicted of four counts of rape by High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera.
He first raped the girl in his own home in Ba when she was 11 years old.
In his sentence, Justice Perera said the man also raped the victim at a cassava patch and at a motel when she was 16 years old in 2016.
The offenses were committed when the victim was staying with the man and his family.
An arrangement was made for the victim to stay with the man and his family as the victim’s father was serving a life sentence.
Justice Perera said the man's wife and relatives were aware of what had happened but they labelled the victim as a liar.
Justice Perera considered the serious breach of trust and the age gap between the victim and the man as aggravating factors.
He also considered that the man was a person with previous good character.
A non parole period of 12 years 9 months has been set.
