64% of women in Fiji experience physical or sexual violence from their partner.
This has been revealed by Fiji women's crisis center study.
Programme Specialist Ending violence against women at UN Women, Abigail Erikson says that members of the public need to work with women, men, girls and boys to reduce immediate and to prevent further violence from happening.
She says that UN Women now will conduct a 16 days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.
This is a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the causes and consequences of violence against women and girls, and mobilising individuals, governments, organisations and UN agencies to take action to end this violence.
Erikson says that this is a unique and powerful opportunity to make collective voices heard and to make a stand for women’s rights, human rights and dignity.
The Activism will end on the 10th of next month.
