A 61-year-old man who raped and sexually assaulted an underage boy and girl, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with 7 years non-parole period.
The man was charged with two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault involving a boy and girl in Suva between 1st January 2013 to 31st December 2014.
The boy and girl were between 5 to 6 years old when the incidents occurred.
They were staying in the same village and the 61-year-old man Peni Namarua raped the boy and sexually assaulted the girl.
The 61 year old man was in remand for 9 months and Justice Vinsent Perera said this would be taken as time spent imprisoned so the total sentence remaining is 9 years 3 months with 6 years 3 months non–parole period.
