Sixty best-performing academic staff of the University of the South Pacific were awarded for their high quality research outputs at the 3rd Research Awards Evening at USP yesterday.
The awards consisted of Rewards of High Quality Publications and four Vice-Chancellor’s Prizes.
Dr. Yoko Kanemasu a lecturer at the School of Social Science received awards from both categories particularly receiving the Vice Chancellor’s Prize for Best Research Publication.
Dr. Kanemasu said it is wonderful that the University offers awards and incentives but this is not the reason why they do research.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Prize for Research Impact was awarded to Professor Randolph Thaman, however, his wife Konai Helu Thaman received the award on his behalf.
Helu Thaman said while some researchers limit their research to their own familiar surroundings, 65-year-old, Randolph has conducted research in just about every member country in USP including Tokelau.
Other Vice-Chancellors Prize included Best Student Research Paper and Creative Works.
