The case of a 50‑year‑old man who allegedly murdered a 33‑year‑old woman in an apartment in Suva on Sunday night has been transferred to the Suva High Court.
Bernard Hicks appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne today.
Magistrate Somaratne has also refused bail for Bernard Hicks.
He ruled in favour of the prosecution who objected to bail saying that it is an indictable offence.
Defence lawyer, Sokoveti Dauni-vesi-volau told the court earlier that Hicks is a father of nine and 3 of his children are still in primary school.
Dauni-vesi-volau also told the court that Hicks is ready to go on strict bail conditions and that he will provide two sureties.
The case will be called on the 20th of this month in the Suva High Court.
Police say the 50‑year‑old allegedly stabbed his defacto wife at their rented apartment at Robertson Road after an argument.
The woman was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
