The Korean government through the Association of World Election Bodies, will be donating 50 touch screen voting machines worth US$700,000 to the Fijian Elections Office.
This was made possible through the signing of Terms of Reference between A-WEB and the Fijian Elections Office on a project to support building electoral transparency through automation of voting and counting systems in Fiji.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says the machines will be used for trade union elections only and not for the 2018 general elections.
He says experts from A-Web conducted an exercise in Fiji where they inspected our network systems and security systems and the project is going to enhance the security and the network of the Fijian Elections Office.
Saneem says they will be working on the security of the data that they maintain because they keep a record of up to 620,000 Fijians.
He adds the program is to be completed by the end of this year and hopes to use the machine for awareness purposes early next year for the trade union elections.
