Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry speaks with former Sodelpa Youth President Pita Waqavonovono outside Totogo Police Station.

Five people have been released by Police after going through an interview regarding information received in relation to comments uttered during a Pacific Dialogue panel discussion last week.

However Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry who went to Totogo Police Station yesterday, is still being questioned by Police.

Fijivillage has received confirmation that NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad, SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka, Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions General Secretary Attar Singh,  Jone Dakuvula and Tupeni Baba were taken in for questioning by Police on Saturday afternoon.

Police confirm the investigation file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for sanctioning.

Mahendra Chaudhry arrived at Totogo Police Station yesterday afternoon.

Chaudhry says Police came looking for him at his residence in Suva on Saturday however he was in the Western Division.

We have received confirmation that Chaudhry is still at the police station.

Naisoro says this is a Police process conducted when information is received about possible issues that could affect the safety and security of all Fijians.

She says the step is being taken merely to eliminate all doubts and concerns.

We spoke to Biman Prasad and he said that Police came looking for him on Saturday morning.

Prasad says he has been told that this is to do with a meeting on Monday.

The inciteful comments uttered in the meeting last Monday will be analyzed and the DPP’s Office will make further decisions on charges.

Amnesty International has released a statement calling for the unconditional release of the people detained.

Rafendi Djamin, Amnesty International’s Director for South East Asia and the Pacific says the men appear to have been detained under the Public Order Amendment Decree which restricts the ability to hold public meetings.

Amnesty International says the office of the NFP has been raided by police, with documents and computers confiscated.

Police have not said anything on this issue.
