5 people on board a fiber glass boat which developed an engine problem around 6am yesterday have been safely rescued.
Police Search and Rescue Centre says that they were drifting between Qamea and Yacata Island and were rescued at 2am this morning.
They left Navakacoa in Taveuni for Naitauba Island Resort on an island close to Taveuni but failed to reach by mid-day yesterday.
Meanwhile, serious concerns continued to be raised regarding the use of fiber glass boats and safety at sea.
Earlier this year seven people went missing at sea and their discovery remains a misery.
The Rescue Centre is again stressing the importance of compliance for fiber glass boats operators while at our sea.
