Five people charged with unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs in Kadavu earlier this month have been remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrates court this morning.
About 45 kilos of drugs was uprooted from the Joji Voravora’s farm and over 20 kilograms was seized from Anare Bai’s farm.
Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili transferred their case to High Court which will be called on 6th February.
Meanwhile, Eparama Sake and Meli Waidrodro pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs. They have been remanded and will appear on 6th February for mitigation and sentencing.
The fifth accused Roma Verenalewa will again appear in the Suva Magistrates Court next Monday for bail hearing.
The Chief Magistrate also ordered that the drugs in police custody be properly recorded, documented and destroyed.
Arrests were made following a raid by Operation Sasamaki in Kadavu last week.
