The Land Transport Authority’s monitoring and enforcement on the roads have been boosted today with 48 enforcement officers graduating.
While speaking at the graduation, Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Vijay Nath says that 23 of these graduates have been tasked to monitor the enforcement of the nation wide E-ticketing system.
Nath says 13 graduates will be Weighbridge Officers and 12 will be Road Safety Officers.
He says that the role of these officers is to enforce the law to deter illegal activities on the roads and ensure that the use of motor vehicles are regulated for the purpose of safety and protection of the environment.
Nath says that there are 7,525km of sealed and unsealed roads and 1,251 bridges and therefore it is the core responsibility of these officers is to ensure that there are no overloaded vehicles to damage the infrastructures.
