The students of the Labasa Special School have so far earned $4,000 by selling 15 coffins since the opening of the workshop last year.
Labasa Special School’s Head Teacher, Mukesh Chand said they are in the process of making 400 chairs, 6 benches and 3 desks for one of the schools in Duavata.
Chand said two special youths who are former students of the school have been hired to work in the workshop and they are looking at employing more of their former students who are still unemployed.
Chand highlights they want to build a hostel to accommodate the students.
There are currently 79 students at the Labasa Special School.
The school receives a grant of $23,000 every year from the government.
